January update

Greetings =) Let's start this new year with some new stuff for the Experimental Tau Codex. I did some talking and playtesting, and decided to modify the Codex in the following ways: to grant more room for army-tailoring I modified one of the Strategic Support Effects (the one that modified the behavior of seeker missiles) to be more broad and allow for modifications on many of the weapons of the army; each time you choose it you can select up to 2 "modifications" (paying for each od them, of course) that allow you to, for instance, consider all your flamers as twin-linked or that make all your plasma rifles Assault 2. Take a look at it, it's versatile (and probably broken at the moment :D ). The other change involves all jump infantry in the army. It's just that with the increased mobility every army is getting with the new codices, the Tau don't feel fast anymore. To try and fix this I introduced a rule that allows all Tau jump infantry to run in the shooting phase while retaining the ability to shoot normally. This will need extensive testing.

  2. Sorry for the previous one...

    A few questions.
    - The normal XV-8 team does not have the shield generator option. Mistake or intentional?
    - Can I assume that the Shas'o and bodyguard XV-9 (wich is, I think a bit mistaken mark, for I have red that the tau using octogonal counting with the numbers ranging 1 to 8, the 0 is only mathematical thing) have the retro-thrusters and the multi-tracker for granted?
    - Do I see right that the XV-88 team can have 3 members, the other two suits can 4?

Also, some suggestions, if I may:
    - The electro-laser. Just drop it. Or rename it. The whole laser-thing is just so un-taulike.
    - The Strain Queen. Can it have +1T and Monstrous status? Fitting perfectly for a hive monarch :D
    - If the other two aux. race have leaders, can you add a human too? The command drone mentions a Gue'vesa'el anyway.
    - The strategic support. I miss the ones that grants scoring status to particular units. Or that would be left for special characters?

  3. Hey there, thanks for the comment, you spotted quite a bit of typos =) now, about your questions:

    - Intentional, I think shield gens should be available only to higher ranks.

    - That is a typo that will be corrected - they indeed get free retro-thrusters and multitrackers with their XV9. About the numbers, actually in an octal system there shouldn't be the nuber 8 as well (a decimal 8 is an octal

10), but apparently the codices describe the units with their imperial designation, not the xenos one. Also, the XV9 is an actual model produced by forgeworld ;)

    - another typo, the team should be 1-4

    now onto the suggestions:

    - I like the weapon, fills a niche quite effectively. The name can surely be changed, but its based on an actual real-life weapon and I liked the idea of having a bit of parallelism with actual weaponry. Also, I'm sure that Tau tech employs lasers everywhere, it's just that most of their weaponry is pulse-based.

    - Vespid (and kroot) are getting redesigned ground-up; maybe MC status is a bit much, but the queen's profile too will see some changes.

    - Ah this is a good question. The fact that kroot and vespid have a leader unit and gue'vesa don't, is because gue'vesa are quite new additions to the Empire, and they did not join it as a whole (like the kroot and the vespid did), but are pockets of traitors, renegades and deserters that joined it after a battle, or represent the population of a conquered world (mostly civilians). High ranking officers of the Imperium would rather kill themselves than join the Tau, thus they are basically non-existant. Under the protection of the Tau Empire, these human auxiliaries have no need of organizing a standing army and training troops on their own, since the Fire Caste provides that kind of protection. Ah, by the way, the Gue'vesa'el is yet another typo, it should read "Gue'vesa'ui"

    - That is right, there are some special characters being created right now that grant the ability to to control objectives some units like Farsight, that makes all XV8 scoring.
